Any epiphany of some sorts appears to have occurred to Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State who has just been mercifully cured of the deadly COVID-19 disease
Mr Mohammed’s fortuitous healing has led to a full recovery and resumption of duties for a Governor who confessed that he saw hell during coronavirus isolation and treatment.
This new lease of life has resulted in a major policy shift whereby the Governor who had his eyes and fingers after the wages and salaries of Bauchi State workers to fund his so called COVID-19 Fund has now relented and reversed the widely unpopular and much criticised unlawful wage confiscation.
This new benign turnabout was announced in a statement issued today on behalf of the State Government and signed by his SA Media, Lawal Muazu Bauchi.
According to Muazu, Mohammed ordered the state’s Accountant General to with “immediate effect stop deduction of some percentage from salaries of workers as contributions to the fight against coronovirus”.
He added that Governor Mohammed said the directive was after receiving series of complaints by some categories of workers.
“I was told by the Head of Civil Service and the Organized Labour in the state that workers will contribute percentage from their salaries to support our campaign against the spread of coronovirus,” the governor said.
” With this development, I directed the Accountant General and the Head of Civil Service to stop deduction of any amount from the salaries of workers, whoever wants to contribute as part of corporate social responsibility can meet the State Task Force.”
