A presidential aspirant under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Sokoto state governor, Aminu Tambuwal, has stepped down from the race.

Tambuwal, one of the presidential hopefuls, announced his withdrawal at the national convention of the opposition party on Saturday.

His decision was made known few minutes before voting by delegates started.

Earlier, the Sokoto governor had said he possesses all the qualities needed to be president of Nigeria, describing himself as a bridge between the young and the old.

“We are compelled to rescue this country and rebuild it together,” he told the delegates.

He is however, understood to have stepped down to support former Vice-president Atiku Abubakar.
