Canadian comedian, Norm MacDonald, has died after a nine-year private battle with cancer. He died at 61.

MacDonald died on Tuesday, September 14, in Los Angeles, U.S.

He was known for his comic roles in films such as Dirty Work, Billy Madison, and Dr Doolittle.

MacDonald worked at the Saturday Night Live for the news after leaving the Roseanne company.

After he left the Saturday Night Live show, he starred in his own comedy series, ‘Norm’, from 1999-2001.

He had a Netflix show in 2018 called ‘Norm MacDonald’.

His longtime partner, Lori Jo Hoekstra, said in a statement, “He was most proud of his comedy. He never wanted the diagnosis to affect the way the audience or any of his loved ones saw him.

“Norm was a pure comic. He once wrote that ‘a joke should catch someone by surprise, it should never pander.’ He certainly never pandered. Norm will be missed terribly.”

Comedian and actor, Jim Carrey, tweeted: “He was one of our most precious gems. An honest and courageous comedy genius.”

Seth Rogan said, “I essentially ripped off his delivery when I first started acting. We lost a comedy giant today. One of the all-time greats.”

MacDonald was born in Quebec City in 1959. He is survived by his ex-wife, Connie, and the son they had together, Dylan MacDonald.
