Workers of Tai Solarin College of Education, Omu-Ijebu in Ogun State, have held a prayer service in protest over their 28 months salaries yet to be paid by the state government.

The workers, dressed white, gathered at the school auditorium where they held a 30-minute spiritual exercise by both Christians and Muslims.

Comprising both academic and non-academic staff of the state-owned institution, the aggrieved workers expressed concern that they have exhausted all means of negotiations with the government.

They therefore threatened to embark on “a rigorous industrial action” if the government failed to yield to their demands.

Daily Trust recalls that the workers had last year written a protest letter to the presidency on their plight, calling for intervention on the backlog of unpaid salaries.

Speaking on behalf of the workers after the prayer session, chairman of the coalition of TASCE Staff, Dr Dan Aborisade, said the action became imperative because they have lost about 48 members who died due to their inability to foot their bills because of the state government’s refusal to pay their salaries. Dr Aborisade also claimed that the government hasn’t paid 48-month arrears and several months of unremitted pension and cooperative deductions.
