American comedian and social critic, Paul Gladney, known as Paul Mooney, has died at 79 from a heart attack.
The actor was born on August 4, 1941 in Louisiana, United States. He passed on at his home in Oakland, California on May 19.
The deceased’s family had tried to revive him along with some paramedics who showed up at his home on Wednesday morning.
He is best known as a writer for comedian Richard Pryor. He played singer ‘Sam Cooke’ in The Buddy Holly Story, Junebug in Bamboozled.
Paul wrote some of Pryor’s routines for his appearance on Saturday Night Live, he is also the head writer for ‘The Richard Pryor Show’ which opened doors for people like Tim Reid, Witherspoon and so on.
Paul co-wrote his material for the ‘Live on the Sunset Strip’ and ‘Is It Something I Said’ albums.
He published a memoir titled ‘Black Is the New White’ in 2007 and he talked about his relationship with Pryor.
His Twitter account has been updated with a thank you message.
It reads: “Thank you all from the bottom of all of our hearts…You’re all are the best! Mooney World. The Godfather of comedy. ONE MOON MANY STARS! To all in love with this great man….many thanks.”
