Nollywood actress, Funke Akindele, has allegedly emerged as the Deputy Governorship candidate for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
The actress was shortlisted with four others, Olanrewaju Jim-Kamal, Adedeji Doherty, Ade Dosunmu and Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour.
Rumour has it that the four stepped down from the race.
The ‘Omo Ghetto’ actress is yet to react and confirm the news, same as the governorship candidate, Alhaji Abdulaziz Olajide Adediran popularly known as Jandor.
The news was announced by Political Strategist, Hon. Otaigbe Imadegbelo, in a tweet.
The tweet read, “Funke Akindele is Lagos PDP candidate, Jandors running mate.”
Although there is no public confirmation yet, Funke has been spotted with the governorship candidate in Ikorodu in what looked like a campaign rally.
The video circulated on Wednesday, July 6. They were surrounded by people who cheered for them while others took selfies with the actress.
Jandor emerged as the party’s candidate in the governorship election on Wednesday, May 26, 2022.
In a new twist, however, the Lagos PDP publicity secretary, Hakeem Amode, in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) debunked the rumour.
According to him, the party is not aware of the new development.
He said the governorship candidate, Jandor, is the only one with the right to announce his running mate and not the media.
He urged the public and media to wait for the official announcement.
Hakeem said, “It is not in my place to announce who the running mate to our governorship candidate, Jandor, is. Let us wait for the candidate himself to announce.
“Has the candidate of the party announced anywhere that he has picked his own running mate?
“What you are reading online on this, is it from the candidate of the party?
“The candidate of the party will announce who his running mate is and he has not done that. We should wait for the official announcement.”
