Federal High Court sitting in Abakaliki has nullified the rescheduled primary elections of the Ebonyi State governorship primary election of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The court ruled that the primary election, which took place on June 5 and 6, 2022 and produced Senator Obinna Ogba as a governoship candidate, was illegal, unconstitutional, null and void.

The court also upheld the primary election earlier conducted on May 29, 2022, which produced Dr Ifeanyi Odii as governorship candidate of the PDP.

Recall that the first primary election that produced Chukwuma Ifeanyi Odii was cancelled by the National Working Committee, NWC, of PDP as a result of a violation of party guidelines and that the committee that conducted the election did not form a quorum.

The presiding Judge, Justice Fauten Riman in his ruling upheld that the gubernatorial primaries election of the PDP held on the 4th and 5th did not meet the new electoral law and the guidelines of the party and thereafter, declared it illegal and unlawful.

Senator Obinna Ogba had collected his certificate of return from the national leadership of the PDP, at the time of filing this report.

Federal High Court nullifies PDP rescheduled primaries, upholds Odii’s emergence.
