An Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday remanded five unemployed men, who  allegedly robbed pedestrians at gunpoint.

The Chief Magistrate, Miss A. O. Akinde, did not take the defendants’ plea.

She said that she needed the advice of the state Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

Akinde ordered that the defendants should be kept at the Kirikiri Prisons, Apapa, Lagos, pending the DPP’s advice.

She adjourned the case until Dec. 4 for mention.

The defendants are Junior Sanmi, 22; Musiliu Aliu, 19;  Adio Musilu , 37; Qurum Azeez, 21;  and Timothy Oladokun, 24, all resident in Bariga, Lagos State.

They are facing charges of conspiracy and armed robbery.

According to the Prosecutor, Sgt. Chekube Okeh, the defendants robbed a total of three pedestrians on Aug. 26 and Aug. 28 at Bariga, carting away their phones and money.

Okeh said that the defendants robbed Mrs Esther Abah, Mrs Fatima Sabba and Mr Dickson Awodua, on  their way from work.

“The defendants robbed them of a Tecno phone valued at N27,800, Infinix phone valued at 45,000 and Innjoo phone worth N18,500 as well as cash of N5, 100.00, at gunpoint on the two days.

“They were caught by members of a vigilance group on the second day;  some of the hoodlums escaped while the defendants were apprehended,” she said.

The alleged offences contravene Sections 296 and 297 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
