COVID-19: Nigeria set for bigger numbers as 49 new cases point towards impending thousands

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), on Saturday, confirmed 49 new cases of COVID-19 in the country.

According to a tweet by the health agency, 23 of the new infections were in Lagos State while a dozen were recorded in the Federal Capital Territory.

Kano State racked up 10 fresh cases,  Ogun had two with Oyo and Ekiti States picking up one case each.

The overall toll climbed to 542 and its just a matter of time before the country reaches a landmark 1000 cases.

Two persons were confirmed death, taking the fatality figure to 19.

While fresh cases and deaths ascend alarmingly, the recovery rate diminishes.

Seven persons were discharged on Saturday, totalling 166. On the average, just a little under four in one person recovers from the virus in Nigeria at the moment.
