There won’t be annual vacation this year for the Judiciary in Ogun State, according to the Deputy Registrar 1 (Legal), M.A Akinyemi.

Mr Akinyemi made this known in a letter titled ‘Notice of Vacation’, dated June 18 and directed to the Nigeria Bar  Association (NBA).

The Deputy Registrar disclosed that this is induced by the lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic in the state.

However, he added that judges can proceed on annual vacation as approved by the Chief Judge.

“I have the directive of the Hon. Chief Judge to relate to you that, in view of the COVID-19 pandemic induced  lockdown the Ogun State judiciary will no longer be closing for 2020 court vacation,” the letter said.

“Rather, individual judges will be proceeding on annual vacation as approved by the Hon. Chief Judge”.

Recall that the Ogun State government last week inaugurated a nine-man committee for criminal justice monitoring in order to ensure that persons awaiting trial are, as far as possible, not detained in prison for a length of time beyond that which is proscribed in section 308, Section 117 (6)(d) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law (ACJL).
