Lagos State Government has announced a palliative measure called ‘Food Kitchen’ to help cushion the effect of another 14-day lockdown .

The Governor of the state, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, made this known while making a brief on COVID-19 on Tuesday.

According to him the food kitchen program would be focused on the youths with a plan to feed about 100,000 people daily while assuring that measures are out in place for effective handling of the project

“We are identifying local food vendors who will pilot this program and ensure that the process of cooking and serving of the meals adhere strictly to public health guidelines,” he said.

Speaking further the governor added that the project was designed to help the youths and vulnerable survive the hardship that would come with the extended lockdown.

Mr Sanwo-Olu also disclosed that the state is effecting plans to begin cash transfer to a minimum of 250,000 indigent citizens of the state.

“We are cleaning up our data from our various social registers to get a clean list of truly vulnerable and economically challenged persons to enable us remit some cash to them. We aim to do these cash transfers by the end of the week to a minimum of 250,000 indigent citizens,” he assured.

President Muhammadu Buhari had in his recent speech ordered an extension of lockdown in the FCT, Ogun and Lagos States to enable a more effective containment of the spread of the corona virus which had risen to about 343 confirmed cases of the virus in Nigeria as at last Monday night.
