The much advertised evacuation of Americans willing to return home from Nigeria as a result of growing cases of Coronavirus infections in the country suffered a huge setback on Friday.

Hundreds of Americans who turned up at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos in response to an advisory by the US Mission in Nigeria were left stranded for hours with no one to attend to them.

Neither the airline officials nor officials from the Mission could be seen in a video of the scene (embedded in this story)at the departure hall shot by a frustrated American.

Most of them wore a dejected look as they awaited the flight promised by their country’s Mission.

The US Consulate in Lagos, had in an advisory early in the week promised Americans wanting to return home, multiple emergency flights for this week, from Lagos and Abuja.

The advisory, however, specifically stated: “Please do not come to the airport until we have contacted you directly.”

KaftanPost could not confirm when the promised flights would arrive as the Americans were still waiting hours after they had expected to be airborne.
