Too often in Nigeria, the obsession of our educated class and our elite is about pointing out the failings of our Governments and institutions. Our successive Governments and institutions have failed us. This is a fact, this is true. It is also correct to refer to the legacy of slavery and colonialism, and the negative effect this has had on our people.

The British handed back Nigeria to us in 1960. How has Nigeria fared in our hands.

Our people have left Nigeria in droves and will continue to leave, as they seek small comforts. Life, security and the sanctity of human life.

In a country where pretty much anything will grow on our soils, with beautiful weather and sometime breathtaking and beautiful vegetation, what most people seek are, security, jobs, food, roads, electricity, infrastructure and peace. Simple things of life, all of which are attainable.

It is not enough to keep pointing out the failings of our Governments and our institutions. Our elites and the educational class must be part of Government in order to implement and execute those ideas that they want Government to implement. They know what must be done. They however have to participate in governance to get things done.

The concept of community and been our brothers, sisters, our children, our seniors, the vulnerable  “keeper”, has always been part and parcel of what Nigerians and African’ have always been and should continue to be. We just have to move it into a higher notch and be more intentional.  This is why even while we have had to leave in search of a better life outside our fatherland, we always look homewards.

The facts are there. We know the impact that disapora bring to the fatherland, to Africa. We all want Africa to be as good as what we have find out in our sojourns. We want, Nigeria, Africa, to be the reference point for Blacks from all over the world, because it is home.

-It Begin With U- Foundation (“ IBWU”), is part of the need for more labours of love towards our fatherland and the desire by a community to continue to be it’s brothers keeper.

IBWU is a not-for-profit Organization incorporated in Canada and Nigeria, founded in June 2019 by people of like minds in Nigeria, North America, Europe who were brought together by a passionate and common desire to bring about positive changes in fatherland. IBWU’s  mission and values are inspired by simple acts of charity and by working in partnerships with communities as participants and encouraging social and community responsibility; beginning with each individual.

It is common knowledge that situation were desperate before the covid -19 outbreak and that, this will not suddenly go away because of the outbreak and that in fact it will get worse.

IBWU’s members raised funds and in partnership with the Junior Chambers International Nigeria, JCI Nigeria, in Ibadan, Asaba, Anambra, Owerri, and in Mushin, Ikeja and Yaba in Lagos, as well as Rotary Port Harcourt and Umuahia, the Young Achievers Entrepreneur in Ijebu Ode, Nigeria, and the SEYP (Society for the empowerment of young persons) in Edo State, provided much-needed relief to families in Nigeria, by donating food packages that would last families at least a week at a minimum, which reached almost 1000 families all across the country. In March 2020, IBWU constructed and donated a bore hole to the Takalafiya Community, Federal Capital Territory, Abuja Nigeria.

All part of the journey and the labour of love towards our fatherland and IBWU will not stop.

Discussions are at an advanced stage with other organisations for a food ambassador/ soup kitchen and women empowerment initiative, which aims to provide food for women and children and also train our women towards a path of sustainability and financial freedom.

It is a labour of love towards our fatherland and we all need to make a settled intention to continue to do more.
