A massive airlift of United States nationals in Nigeria wishing to return home as a result of the growing Coronavirus infections in the country is imminent.

The exercise slated for this week is to take place in Lagos and Abuja, according to the US Mission in Nigeria.

The Mission said in a Tweet on Tuesday that: “The US Consulate in Lagos has confirmed multiple emergency flights for this week departing from Lagos and Abuja. Please do not come to the airport until we have contacted you directly. Please shelter in place and await further information.”

Some countries have in recent days been evacuating their nationals in Nigeria as COVID -19 cases spread around the country even as authorities intensify their efforts to contain the pandemic which is also ravaging other parts of the world including the United States.
