Cristiano Ronaldo finally scored from a direct free kick for Juventus as goalkeeper, Gianluigi Buffon, made a record 648th Serie A appearance as the league leaders beat neighbours Torino 4-1 on Saturday.

The derby win over Torino was also notable for Gianluigi Buffon’s record-breaking 648th Serie A appearance.

Paulo Dybala put Juve ahead and Ronaldo set up a Juan Cuadrado goal.

Andrea Belotti pulled one back before Ronaldo struck, with the final goal; a Torino own goal.

Ronaldo has now scored 46 free-kick goals at club level, with 32 for Real Madrid and 13 for Manchester United.

Buffon, 42, overtook Paolo Maldini’s Serie A appearance record when he was picked for his first league game this year.

Cristiano Ronaldo vowed to start scoring free-kicks on a regular basis again after breaking a losing streak that had endured for almost two years.

The former Real Madrid star might have built up a reputation for his prowess at dead-ball situations, but Juventus fans had been left waiting to see those talents up close.

After the match, Ronaldo said, “We knew it wasn’t going to be easy, but we deserved to win; we played well.

“My goal? I was waiting to score on a free kick. I’m happy, but it’s important to win regardless of who scores. We are improving as a team, that’s what matters.”

The win left Juventus with 75 points from 30 games at the top of Serie A table.
