Customs generated over N117bn from Tin Can Island in 4 months

The Nigeria customs service (NCS) has reported that it generated N117.839bn from Tin Can Island Port as revenue into the Federal account between January and April.

The revenue of N117.839bn generated within the last four months is an increase of N11.195bn over the previous year’s revenue of N106.644bn within the same period.

According to the Command, they have beefed up trade acceleration process with the deployment of Time Release Study (TRS) tools for strategic planning in determining the actual time needed for the release and Clearing of the goods, from the time the goods come in and the time they are physically released from the Customs control point.

Musa Baba Abdullahi, the Customs Area Controller, in a statement issued on the command’s operations, explained that the TRS remained a strategic tool that was capable of creating an enabling environment for effectiveness and efficiency and also identifying bottlenecks in the trade during operations.

Talking on measures being taken to avoid the spread of COVID-19, the comptroller expressed the command’s readiness to ensure strict adherence and compliance with the extant protocols of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) and World Health Organisation (WHO) towards containing the spread of the virus.

He also added that, “Even at the beginning of this pandemic when pressure, anxiety and general apprehension were the order of the day, the command demonstrated resilience, understanding and compassion in its approach to the novel pandemic, such that tension was reduced from the psyche of the operatives with confidence inspired that enabled them to attend to their functions willingly and readily.

“With this pandemic, the command will increase her sensitisation on the need for Nigerians to fully take advantage of the operations in export trade, especially at this moment when it has become compelling for diversification of the economy for national development.

“We use this medium to remind Nigerians to seize the opportunity of the numerous incentives by the Federal Government in the area of export to draw and attract the consciousness of Nigerians to the advantages in export trade.”
