Founder and CEO of MAVINS records, Don Jazzy, has finally spoken on the outburst made at the 2015 Headies saga involving music producer and rapper, Olamide.
Don Jazzy, in an interview with Bounce Radio, spoke about what led to the way he reacted and what he felt afterwards.
Recall that Olamide had allegedly slammed the award organisers for giving the award for the best rated to another artist when records had shown otherwise.
Olamide said, “This award belongs to Lil Kesh because he is our next rated artist…Street has taken over. Every f***ing single was a hit back to back from ‘lyrically’ to ‘Shoki’ to ‘Efejoku’…”
Don Jazzy, who won an award, immediately took to the stand to give his appreciation speech. He said, “Egbon Olamide, If you want the car, come and collect it.”
However, when asked in an interview if he regrets his actions back in 2015, Don Jazzy replied with a ‘yes’.
He said he understood how Olamide felt because the rapper is very passionate about his music and his crew.
“To an extent, I get the kind of person he is. We are not different. His passion is about himself and his artists and the people he has put in with his sweat and blood and vice versa (referring to himself).
“That s**t happened so fast. Normally, I don’t like giving speech if I collect award, however, I was upset that people think we pay for award.
“I wouldn’t have responded If they waited for like 10 minutes. They had to call my award like right immediately after his anger outburst and I just needed a little more time.
“I would have gone there to collect the award and leave. I was even trying to make peace, it’s not that serious. It is the way I talk normally. I would have said it online or offline,” he said.
Don Jazzy used Peruzzi’s popular slang, ‘I don’t want wahala’ to further buttress his point that he only wanted things to rest the way it was then. And he perceived Olamide’s anger to be about the car, so if he wanted it, the car is free for him.
