Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Senate President Ahmad Lawan and former Senate President Bukola Saraki have charged Nigerians on peace, tolerance and positive thinking.

This is as as Muslim faithfuls celebrate Eid-el Fitr to mark the end of the month-long Ramadan fasting season.

In his message, Atiku said, “We should use religion as an instrument for creating unity, love and harmony rather than using it to feed hate and intolerance, which usually results in needless conflicts. Let’s not allow selfish politicians and people of bad faith to divide us and use us as fighting tools for their own sinister agendas.”

On his part, Senate President Ahmad Lawan called on Muslims to imbibe the lessons of self-restraint, sacrifice, charity and sharing with their neighbours and the needy, which the holy month teaches.

He said: “As Nigerians, let us engage in what is right and avoid whatever is forbidden by our faith, and be good representatives of our faith. We should continue to abhor whatever threatens peace and embrace whatever strengthens the unity of our nation.”

Meanwhile, Saraki, congratulated Muslims in a statement through Head of the Abubakar Bukola Saraki Media Office, Yusuph Olaniyonu, titled ‘Saraki Greets Muslims, Urges Them to Support Prayers With Positive Attitude.’

Saraki was quoted as saying, “While all of us seek to stay away from activities that are injurious to our health, our nation, and our fellow human beings, and seek to live a decent life during the fasting period, we should make this solemn and God-fearing way of life a permanent thing.

“We should all extend the lessons of Ramadan to the way we live with our neighbours.

“We should seek peace at all times, promote tolerance of people who speak different languages with us, and worship God in different ways. We should respect the laws of the land and exhibit discipline at all times.”
