In Britain, almost a whole family had come down with coronavirus after it was believed that 17 members had caught the disease at a funeral.

Three days before the country was shut down, the funeral of Sheila Brooks, who died at the ripen of 86, attracted the gathering of almost all her extended family members who came together, on March 13, in celebration of a life well lived.

On March 22, however, Sheila’s niece died from suspected coronavirus complications. Two days after, Susan Nelson and West McCain, who had attended the funeral on March 13 and had no record of underlying health challenges, became ill and died on March 25. Medical examination showed they died of coronavirus symptoms and viral pneumonia.

Now, another sixteen members of the family have said they believe that they too contracted the virus at Sheila’s funeral.

The infected members of the family, who are still struggling with the coronavirus symptoms, have taken to social media where they are sensitising people on the importance of following guidelines for social distancing.

It would be recalled that many countries in Europe have now prohibited funerals as a result of coronavirus crisis. For many, the virus is robbing families of the chance to say a final farewell.

In Italy, several coronavirus patients die in isolation without family or friends while visits are discouraged because of the contagious nature of the pandemic.
