In matchweek 3, at Old Trafford, United finally got their first premier league victory of the season against Liverpool after two embarrassing defeats.

United who had both Cristiano Ronaldo and captain Harry Maguire on the bench started the match with the better tempo and would have been a goal up as early as the eleventh minute, Anthony.

Elanga wasted a huge opportunity after he received a beautiful pass from the edge of the box and fired towards the net, unfortunately, he only hit the right post.

He later atoned for his earlier missed chance and tees up Jason Sancho inside the box and he rolls the ball into the bottom left corner and past Alisson.

The match was expected to be headlined by the protest before the match and the players responded to their agitators with what was clearly an improved performance from their two previous defeats.

Liverpool defeated United both home and away last season scoring nine goals and were clearly not at their usual form and failed to make any real attempt as the first half drew to a close.

United boss, Erik Ten Hag made the first substitution at halftime as the match ended for Anthony Elanga who was replaced by Anthony Martial.

Manchester United continued with the same first-half tempo and doubled their lead in the 64th minute after Marcus Rashford was released by Anthony Martial, the Englishman surged into the box and smashed a great shot into the top corner after a one-on-one with Alisson.

United continued to dominate the proceedings and Liverpool should be grateful to Alisson who kept the scoreline down after forcing a low drive to save towards the right post from Marcus Rashford.

Liverpool finally pulled a goal back through Mohammed Salah, with an header the Egyptian managed to put the ball inside the right post.

Ronaldo came in for Marcus Rashford in the 86th minute and saw a shot blast high over the crossbar.

Five minutes of stoppage time was added and United stood firm to record their first league win under Erik Ten Hag’s era.
