Gombe State House of Assembly, Sadique Ibrahim Kurba has been removed, following a vote of no confidence.

The vote was passed by 16 members of 24 members of the State House of Assembly, comprising 20 APC and four PDP members.

Former deputy speaker, Shuaibu Adamu, announced the names of the 16 members who voted Ibrahim Kurba out, and the motion was moved by Saddam Bello, member representing Funakaye Constituency.

The removed Speaker was immediately replaced by the member representing Akko Central, Abubakar Muhammed Leggero, aged 36 years.

The new Speaker was sworn in by Deputy Speaker, Siddi Buba, from Kwasi West Constituency.

According to him, removing the former Speaker from his position was a collective decision.

He admitted, “The former speaker of the house was removed due to lack of confidence. We lost confidence in his leadership; and as a house, we are at liberty to change leadership. Once you lack confidence in someone, then there has been a breach. We felt the best thing was to remove him and replace him with a brand new speaker.”

Majority leader, Samuel Markus, was also removed, this was done through a voice note by Mustapha Usman representing Gombe South, and was replaced by Ladan Yerima, representing Kaltungo East Constituency.

Gombe State is known for its relatively peaceful and stable politics since Nigeria returned to Civilian rule in May 1999.
