The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), has launched a Volunteer Scheme as part of a holistic disaster management plan.

The Director-General of LASEMA, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Friday.

According to him, LASEMA Volunteer Scheme is another layer of proactive defence measure by the agency to forestall disasters as a formidable third-tier defence mechanism against disaster in the state.

He said that the idea of the scheme came up in response to feedback from stakeholders and concerned citizens.

”The agency has decided to expand the frontline defence mechanism of Lagos State by engaging the community to enlist and train capable, qualified volunteers to strengthen the state’s disaster management plan.

“The online registration requirements on the agency’s website; lasema.ng include Name, Phone Number, e-mail address, LASRRA ID (if applicable), Full Home Address (Local Government Area) and Full Office Address (Local Government Area).

”The agency also requires that prospective volunteers indicate their areas of interest by ensuring they are in tandem with the agency’s available units such as the Roadside Assistance and Traffic Management, Fire-fighting and Fire Safety,” Oke-Osanyintolu said.

He, however, explained that other available units include: Safety Awareness and Crowd Control; Relief Activities or the Advocacy and Awareness Unit; with provision for additional information obtainable from LASEMA Public Affairs Unit on 09050808213.
