However, delegates from the eight local governments in the senatorial district on Thursday elected Lawan at the party secretariat in Maiduguri.
The local government areas that voted for Lawan on Thursday include, Jere, Mafa, Bama, Dikwa, Konduga, Kalabalge and Ngala.
Lawan emerged as the district’s senatorial candidate unopposed.
The Chairman of the APC Electoral Primary Election Committee, Uba Maigari Amadu, while speaking after the election said Lawan scored 459 cast out of the 480 accredited votes.
Lawan in his reaction to the victory, thanked the state Governor, Governor Babagana Zulum for standing firm to ensure the unity of the party.
He also commended the former governor of the state, Shettima for being a good leader to APC members in Borno.
Lawan said, “If elected into the red chamber, as a lawyer I will demonstrate qualitative representation to the people of Borno State.”
