LG Spokesman counters Sanwo-Olu, says Onigbongbo chairman didn’t die of COVID-19

The Chief Press Secretary to the late Onigbongbo Local Council Development Area Chairman, Babatunde Oke, Ishmaeel Akerele, has denied that his boss died of COVID-19.

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, had on Wednesday, said Oke’s death was from COVID-19 complications.

The governor, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Gboyega Akosile, expressed sadness over the incident.

“Oke, a second-term Chairman of Onigbongbo LCDA, died in the early hours of Wednesday, August 12, from complications arising from COVID-19 infection.” the governor’s statement added.

Sanwo-Olu was also quoted to have urged residents not to allow the death deter efforts at finding “a lasting solution to the dreaded coronavirus, which is ravaging the world.”

“Needless for me to say that I am saddened by the death of this fine gentleman; a loyal party man and committed democrat, who had a deep understanding of local government administration and the political landscape,” Sanwo-Olu added.

However, in a statement on Wednesday evening, titled, ‘Hon Babatunde Oke’s death was not related to COVID-19 complications’, Akerele noted that his boss died “after a brief illness.”
