Man accused of stealing purse, mobile phone, remanded in correctional centre

An Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court in Osun, on Wednesday remanded one Otta Emmanuel, 33, over an alleged theft of a purse containing N50,000, and a mobile phone.

The Magistrate, Mrs Habibat Basiru, denied the defendant bail and ordered his remand at the Correctional Centre in Ile-Ife.

Basiru adjourned the case until Feb 27, for further hearing.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp Sunday Osanyintuyi, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Nov. 9, 2019 at 11.00 a.m., at Afeki Junction, Opa, Ile-Ife.

Osanyintuyi said that the defendant conspired with others, now at large, to commit the offences of break-in and stealing.

He added that the defendant entered into the shop of one Folake Awoyera and stole a purse containing N50, 000 and one Itel mobile phone.

The prosecutor said the offences contravened sections 383, 390 (9), 413 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.

The defendant, who was not legally represented, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
