Mystery trails the death of Ondo Varsity lecturer

Dr. Gilbert Ibitola, a senior lecturer at the Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH) in Okitipupa of Ondo State has reportedly slumped and died.

Kaftan Post gathered that the lecturer, aged 58, died in his apartment on Friday, June 5, 2020. His mysterious death has consequently brought about anxiety across the campus community.

According to family sources, the deceased lecturer was not sick before the unfortunate incident.

Confirming the news of Ibitola’s demise, the institution’s Academic Staff Union (ASUU) chapter Chairman, Dr Dipo Akomolafe said the deceased, who was of the Department of Physical Sciences, died on Friday.

Akomolafe described Ibitola as a brilliant scholar and a great physicist who devoted his life time to teaching, research and community service.

He noted in his words, “The deceased was a humorous and humble academician whose life was worthy of emulation.

“We announce his departure with deep regret but total submission to the will of God. He reportedly slumped and died in his apartment on Friday. Until his death, he was a senior lecturer in the Department of Physical Sciences and was once the acting and pioneer Head of Department.”

Efforts to reach out to deceased family for further probe as to the real cause of his death was unsuccessful as at the time of filing this report.
