The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Sunday night confirmed 437 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in Nigeria to 46,577.

The health agency made this announcement via its verified Twitter handle.

The 437 new cases are reported from 17 states and Lagos topped the list with 107 new cases. The commercial nerve of the country, which has remained the epicentre of the disease in Nigeria now has a total of 15,875 confirmed cases.

Others states where the new cases were reported on Sunday night are FCT (91), Plateau (81), Kaduna (32), Ogun (30), Kwara (24), Ebonyi (19), Ekiti (17), Oyo (8), Borno (6), Edo (6), Kano (4), Nasarawa (3), Osun (3), Taraba (3), Gombe (2) and Bauchi (1).

“On the 9th of August 2020, 437 new confirmed cases and 3 deaths were recorded in Nigeria.

“Till date, 46577 cases have been confirmed, 33186 cases have been discharged and 945 deaths have been recorded in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory,” the NCDC said.

Meanwhile, the country’s recovery rate witnessed a significant drop on Sunday with 142 people discharged between Saturday and Sunday.

This is the first time in two weeks that Nigeria would record less than 200 recoveries in its daily count of discharged patients.

It would be recalled that the last time such a figure was recorded was July 22, when 138 people were discharged.

With 142 persons confirmed to have recovered from the virus on Sunday, the number of discharged patients has now risen from 33,044 to 33,186., while out of the 46,577 confirmed cases, 12,446 are still active.
