Nigeria’s proposed new national carrier will start operations the first quarter of 2022.
This was announced by the Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, on Wednesday during a chat with State House correspondents after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting.
Sirika said the new national carrier which has been long awaited will be private sector-driven and will be more affordable than the other airlines.
Speaking further, the Minister noted that the new national carrier is expected to be a viable airline and is potentially poised to cater to millions of travelers in Nigeria and Africa.
He emphasized that the ravaging COVID-19 pandemic was responsible for the postponement of the planned date for the establishment of the National Carrier.
Recall that the take-off was initially planned for the end of 2021.
He disclosed that the Ministry would return to the council in two weeks to submit a memo with an outline business case for the council’s approval.
