The House of Representatives received a proposal to change Nigeria’s name to UAR (United African Republic).
The development has sparked outrage from Nigerians across the country, who have taken to social media to react.
A tax consultant, Adeleye Jokotoye, submitted the proposal to the committee at the South West Zonal Public Hearing in Lagos yesterday, June 2, 2021.
According to him, a change of name will create new beginnings.
However, Nigerians have taken that as a surprise, considering the fact that challenges like insecurity is still very much at large.
Below are some reactions from Nigerians on Twitter:
Visa consular : Where are you from ?

United African Republic (UAR).
In their thinking, “United” is the reason the United States of America is progressing? Nigeria have no business with a bicameral legislature. It’s too expensive, waste of scarce resources. The Senate is enough. pic.twitter.com/ximBLDXFXk— NEFERTITI (@firstladyship) June 2, 2021

Must have thought United in the name makes the country rich. United African Republic (UAR) like the United Kingdom, United Arab Emirates, United States. Lol. Someone spent weeks working on that idea. Probably even got a grant. Lol. I am tired.
