Nigeria’s Foreign Minister, Geoffrey Onyeama in isolation after testing positive for COVID-19

Nigeria’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Geoffrey Onyeama, has tested Positive for coronavirus.

He made this known through his verified Twitter handle on Sunday afternoon.

“Did my fourth Covid-19 test yesterday at the first sign of a throat irritation and unfortunately this time it came back positive,” he said.

“That is life! Win some lose some. Heading for isolation in a health facility and praying for the best,” he added.

The news came after Onyeama announced that Nigerians that are being evacuated from France, Hungary, Romania, Poland, Norway, Germany, Holland, UK and Canada all tested negative before boarding for Nigeria on Sunday.

As at the time of writing this report, Nigeria is Africa’s third most impacted country only behind South Africa and Egypt, with 36,107 confirmed cases. 14,938 has fully recovered while 778 have lost their lives.

The national response is being led by the Presidential Task Force, PTF, headed by SGF Boss Mustapha along with a national coordinator and relevant ministers – chief among them, Health, Foreign Affairs and Education ministries. At the heart of the response is the Nigeria Center for Disease Control, NCDC.
