A civil society group, Arewa Lives Matter, (ALM) says Northern Nigeria is currently experiencing its worst state of insecurity without any form of relief.

ALM’s convener, Bilal Adamu Halilu, made the statement on his Twitter account on Tuesday Morning.

Halilu, however, advised northern leaders to learn from their southwest counterparts who came together to set up regional security outfit, Amotekun.

He, however, urged the northern leaders to unite to end the spate of killings in the region.

The statement reads:

“As we consider the urgency of #arewalivesmatter.

“Especially when explaining the movement’s primary focus on Northern Security within Nigeria??

“Everyone should remember, the South Western Governors came together and established Àmọ̀tẹ́kùn, etc.

“For the sake of their own citizens, they suspended or forgot about their political affiliation, united and at least acted on their people’s concerns.

” In comparison, the Northern citizens are still on their own, feeling so exposed to daily killings.

” Experiencing the worst insecurity and still without visible, tangible relief.

” That is the point. This abandonment should not continue!!

It can be recalled that Halilu was formerly arrested and detained by the Department of Secret Service (DSS) on Thursday, July 16, over a planned protest.

There have been reports of heightened insecurity in parts of the north, especially Borno, Katsina and  Kaduna States.

In the past weeks, southern part of Kaduna have recorded killings at Kukum Daji and Gora Gan put at 33 deaths.

Governor Nasir El-Rufai had said insecurity in the state is being perpetrated by criminal elements who have been killing, kidnapping people and rustling cattle in the entire North-west region.

President  Muhammadu Buhari also condemned the crisis with the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, on Monday, deploying an intervention squad.
