The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State have pointed accusing fingers at each other following a violence that erupted in Oba Akoko on Wednesday afternoon.

In a statement issued through the Head of Media Research of the Eyitayo Jegede campaign organization, Samuel Fasua, the PDP accused the ruling APC of unleashing attacks on the campaign team of its flag bearer, Eyitayo Jegede.

According to the statement, ”No fewer than five persons sustained varying degrees of injuries today, Wednesday, September 16, 2020, when, quite unexpectedly, the convoy of Ondo State governor, Mr. Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, stormed Oba-Akoko in Akoko South-West and started attacking the campaign team of Mr. Eyitayo Jegede, the PDP governorship flagbearer.

“As at now, no fewer than three vehicles in the convoy of Jegede have been badly damaged, while Jegede himself is being held hostage inside the palace of the monarch of Oba-the Oloba, by gun-totting hoodlums suspected to be agents of the governor,” the statement continued.

The PDP further claimed to have sighted Akeredolu inside his convoy during the attacks while police operatives in the location simply vacillated and looked on in the face of the orgies of madness.

On his part, Jegede, in a recorded video, which was widely circulated on social media challenged the APC for opening fire at the people of the area, noting that cars have been damaged in the process.

He further expressed dismay at the level of violence that is being perpetrated by the APC government of Ondo State.

Meanwhile, the APC, in a separate statement by the spokesperson of Akeredolu/Aiyedatiwa Campaign Organization, Olabode Richard Olatunde, accused the PDP of attacking the campaign convoy of Governor Akeredolu, at Oba-Akoko in Akoko South-West Local Government Area of the state.

The statement read: ”Just today, Wednesday, the 16th of September, hoodlums of the Governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Eyitayo Jegede (SAN), attacked the campaign convoy of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu (SAN), at Oba-Akoko in Akoko South-West Local Government Area of the state.”

”The Governor, Arakunrin Akeredolu and the campaign train of the APC were on their way to Ikare-Akoko, in continuation of the local government all, when the thugs struck and attacked the convoy.”

”In their crass display of madness and thuggery, the hoodlums set ablaze the branded campaign vehicle donated to the Akeredolu/Aiyedatiwa Campaign Organisation by Ambassador Sola Iji.”

The APC, however, added that” the driver of the vehicle sustained bodily injury and he is now receiving treatment at a government hospital.”

As the ruling APC and the opposition PDP continue to trade blames over the unfortunate incident, political analysts, who spoke with KaftanPost correspondent, maintained diverse opinions as to the true side of the argument.

Meanwhile, the viral video obtained by our correspondent revealed a recorded sight of young men with guns shooting sporadically into the air in an APC branded car.
