A former Publicity Secretary of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State, Mr. Banji Okunomo, has resigned his membership of the party.

Okunomo contested at the governorship primary of the PDP but got 90 votes.

His name was among those presented to the PDP governorship candidate, Eyitayo Jegede, to be picked as running mate but Jegede refused.

Okunomo announced his resignation from the PDP at Domfav Hotel in Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State.

He is said to be heading for the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) to join forces with Dr. Olusegun Mimiko and Hon Agboola Agbo.

He said he was leaving the PDP alongside 15, 000 members across the 18 local governments areas of Ondo State at a formal declaration to be announced later.

According to opinions gathered by KaftanPost correspondent, his move into the third force, that is ZLP ahead of the governorship election on October 10, 2020 was long expected as he had earlier criticised the moves by Eyitayo Jegede, the party’s flag bearer since his emergence.

It would be recalled that Okunomo walked out of the Dome event center in Akure, venue of the PDP primary after clear indication that he lost the ticket.

He however didn’t wait for the final results of the process before exiting the venue, KaftanPost correspondent witnessed.
