Oyo State chapter of the Alliance for Democracy (AD) on Wednesday announced the suspension of former member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Babatunde Oduyoye, the state Caretaker Committee Chairman, Chief Akin Alamu and three others from the party for alleged anti-party activities.

The decision to suspend the party chieftains was taken at the meeting of the party’s stakeholders, comprising of the state Secretary of the party, Aremo Adeola Adepoju, party chairmen in the 33 local government council areas of the state.

Others are some of the contestants for the legislative seats in the coming elections, members of the Caretaker Committee including Elder Sunday Salako and Hon. Bukola Farotimi as well as party elders from the three senatorial districts held in Ibadan on Tuesday night.

A report of the meeting signed by Aremo Adepoju and made available to journalists in Ibadan, the stakeholders viewed with angst and consternation Chief Akin Alamu’s confession of romance and adoption of Engr. Seyi Makinde of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), an affront, betrayal, self-serving, wicked, inhumane and aberration of high proportion which no party worths its salt could tolerate.

The report further added that the stakeholders were unmistaken in their condemnation of the highly referred Akin Alamu who was accused of dereliction of duty and great anti-party activities, noting also with disgust the open disparage of the party’s gubernatorial candidate on a radio programme.

According to the report, “arising from this observation, the meeting suspended Chief Alamu and the following people: Messers Bayo Badmus, Clement Fajembola, Babatunde Tijani, Honourable Babs Oduyoye and Mrs. Grace Akande from the party henceforth, a decision being sent to the National Headquarters alongside all the evidences of anti-party activities leveled against Chief Alamu and his team”.

The Stakeholders also asked the party’s National Headquarters to view with serious indignation the activities of Chief Alamu and his team said to be unbecoming of the committed and genuine party members and recommended their total expulsion from the party so that the party could move forward.

Acknowledging the current peace pervading the party, the stakeholders disclosed that those hitherto operating a separate faction have embraced genuine reconciliation under the leadership of Chief Micheal Akinropo and have declared their full support for the gubernatorial candidature of Oyedele Hakeem Alao.

It was also stated at the meeting that the  impression created by Chief Alamu on the readiness of the party in Oyo State to contest the forthcoming elections was wrong with the stakeholders asserting their resolve and commitment as well as unshaken belief in the candidature of Mr.. Alao as the party’s gubernatorial candidate, saying, “the young man has been working tirelessly for his success and those of other contestants in the elections”.

While urging the good people of Oyo State to discountenance whatever Chief Alamu and his co-travellers might have said about the party and its candidates in the state, they appealed to them to remain committed to the party and its welfare programmes that cannot be compared with those of any other party.

They equally warned that whatever negotiation or realignment as claimed by Chief Alamu and his team may be midwifing “is outside of Oyo AD and anybody getting involved in such unholy alliance is doing it at his or her peril”.
