Phone theft:Court remands man, 25

A Tinubu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Wednesday remanded a 25-year-old man, Patrick Amu, for allegedly snatching a mobile phone from a female commuter at a bus stop.

The Magistrate, Mr T. A. Anjorin-Ajose ordered that Amu should be remanded in Ikoyi prison after he pleaded guilty to the charge of theft.
Anjorin-Ajose adjourned the case until Oct. 17 for review of facts and sentencing.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp. Ajaga Agboko told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Oct. 8 at 5:30a.m. at Oyin Jolayemi Street, Victoria Island, Lagos State.
He said that the defendant waylaid a female banker, Ms Olayinka Ajayi, at the bus stop while on her way to work and snatched her Infinix mobile phone worth N33,000.
“Ajayi raised alarm and other passersby helped in apprehending the defendant,” he said.
Agboko said the alleged offence contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
