Heads are beginning to roll over the controversial gas to electric power contract Nigeria signed in 2008 with Process and Industrial Development (P&ID), as a former director in the Ministry of Petroleum Resources was Friday remanded in prison over the deal, on the orders of an Abuja High court.

Mrs Grace Taiga, a one-time director of legal services in the ministry was sent to Suleija prison by Justice Olukayode Adeniyi and will remain there till September 25 when her bail application would be determined.

Mrs Taiga, together with a former petroleum resources minister, Rilwanu Lukman, was accused by the federal government of participating in the award of the controversial contract to P&ID an Irish firm which dragged Nigeria to a British court over a breach of the contract and got a $9.6 billion award against the country.

She faced an 8-count charge bordering on fraud levelled against her by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

She was also accused of receiving $20,000 as kickback to ensure the deal went
through.

When the charges were read, Mrs Taiga pleaded not guilty.
