Press release: End the killings now- Arewa lives matter- Notice of intent to occupy Northern State Houses of Assembly

  1. On Wednesday, 24th June 2020, It is unequivocal that Arewa Lives Matter issued a press release in pursuit of adequate security, peace and welfare for Nigerian Citizens with an ultimatum of fourteen days to occupy the state assemblies in the 19 northern state with the inclusion of National Assembly Abuja.

2- With the above press release, We kept following situations to see the effort of the government in engaging to see an end to the killings but it became more alarming as follows

-On 15th/June/2020, At least 35 people were killed in three villages in Shinkafi local government.

-On 21st/June/2020, Over 23 persons were killed in Ruwan-Tofa Community, which the armed bandits attacked the Community unchallenged.

-On 25th/June/2020, Six confirmed dead in an attack by bandits on Kanawa and Kanga villages in Danmusa, which on same date Kaduna-Abuja highway was intercepted by kidnappers, which uptil date number of people whisked away not ascertain.

-On 26th/June/2020, Dr Muhammad Bello was gunned down Along Katsina-Zamfara road, on his way from an assignment.

– On 27th/June/2020, dozens of women and girls were abducted with 10 soldiers killed on same date by Boko Haram in Malaharam in Biu local government of Borno state.

– 6th/July/2020 wasn’t left behind which suppose to be tagged as a sad due to the loss of a young promising officer 2nd lieutenant A. Alhassan in Maiduguri by Boko Haram.

– As we mourn 7th/July/2020, 15 persons were again killed by bandits in Yar Gamji of Batsari local government area of Katsina state.

  1. Following the expiry of “fourteen days” from the above press release and with the killings in Northern Nigeria continuing, we are left with no option than to proceed to congregate and occupy the State Houses of Assemblies in the nineteen northern states.
  2. We aim to continue this peaceful act of occupation until peace is restored in our communities because we can no longer sit and watch over citizens being killed on a daily basis.
  3. Until the lives of our citizens are safe and secure, there is no reason for living in our dear states.
  4. We appeal for active and immediate solutions to our deep rooted insecurity challenges, especially at the hotbeds of violence and killings in Northern Nigeria.
  5. We restate the fact that Nigerians are deeply disappointed with the ineffective and insufficient approach of the Federal and State governments with regards to ending these daily acts of murder, violence and brutal killings of the innocent.
  6. We seek significant, committed, serious and dedicated efforts by the Federal Government to get the situation under complete control, so communities can live their lives in peace.
  7. We urge ACTION and RESULTS by the Federal Government to ensure effective policing of our borders and successful management of the security architecture of this country, Nigeria.
