The Provost of Health Sciences, of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital (NAUTH) Nnewi, Professor Okwudili O. Udemezue, is dead.

News of his death was received by KAFTAN Post on Thursday.

Udemezue, a Professor of Anatomy who became the College’s Provost in October 2018, died of diabetes and COVID-19 complications, KAFTAN Post authoritatively learnt.

While he was admitted into the isolation centre of the hospital on Saturday on suspicion, his COVID-19 status was eventually confirmed on Wednesday.

NAUTH’s Chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee, Dr Joe Ugboaja, confirmed the death of the provost to newsmen but he said he could not confirm if the late Professor died of COVID-19.

The acting Public Relations Officer of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Chika Eneh, also said the institution was still awaiting a report on the cause of the death.

“The provost is dead but we cannot ascertain what killed him. We are yet to know,” Eneh said.
