The President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), Dr Akinwumi Adesina, has said that Nigeria can not develop unless states are given free hands to manage their God-given resources.
Adesina, made this known during a lecture on Tuesday, at the International Event Centre known as Dome, in Akure, the Ondo State capital to mark the second term inauguration ceremony of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu.
According to the lecture titled: “Towards A New Nigeria, From Federal Fatherism To A Commonwealth”, Adesina said the time has come for the government at the state level to handle their resources for immediate use of its people.
He noted that ” time has come for the state to be given free hand to operate and which means restructuring must be given a priority.
“We have poverty in the land today because resources are wasting and left untapped just because, states are powerless and handicap to make proper use of their resources.”
