Senator Ugochukwu Uba elected as PDP Governorship candidate in Anambra State

The Anambra State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party, (PDP) has elected Senator Ugochukwu Uba as its standard bearer in the November 6 ballot.

Election Returning Officer Obidi Ebede said Uba got 275 votes to defeat his closest rival, Godwin Ezeemo with 114, while Senator Uche Ekwunife got 56 votes to come third after 665 persons were accreditted for the election.

It would be recalled that an FCT High Court presided over by Justice A.O. Adeniji had on 9th June 2021 and on 24 June 2021 in suit no: HC/CV/774/2021 affirmed the legitimate State Executive led by Chukwudi Umeaba and elected delegates

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) National Headquarters also issued a directive dated 22nd June 2021 with ref: INEC/LEG/LM/04/T/131 signed by INEC Secretary, Rose Oriaran-Anthony directing INEC and the Peoples Democratic Party to comply with the court said order.

The winner and PDP Gubernatorial flagbearer for Anambra State in his acceptance speech pledged to restore Anambra State to its original developmental plan, recalling his role as Executive Assistant to the first Military Administrator, Permanent Secretary for Public Utilities, Permanent Secretary Finance, Commissioner for Youths and Sports and later Commissioner for Agriculture under the first civilian Government in the State.

Uba promised to restore local government autonomy to the 21 Local Government Areas in the State to facilitate rapid development, employment, security and welfare services by the currently comatose local government councils.

Uba of PDP is expected to face Ifeanyi Ubah of YPP, and Charles Soludo of APGA in the governorship election is slated for 6th November 2021. The APC and other parties are yet to nominate a candidate for the election but are still within time. APC is conducting its primary election at the time of filing this report.

However, the governorship election is billed for November as other parties also conclude on who will be their falg bearer.

Former Central Bank of Nigeria Governor, Prof. Charles Soludo also emerged as the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate.
