Socialite Hushpuppi receives 11-year sentence

A United States Central District Court in California has sentenced Ramon Abass popularly known as Hushpuppi to 11 years in prison for fraud and money laundering.

Hushpuppi was arrested in June 2020 in Dubai, United Arab Emirate (UAE). He pleaded guilty a year later, in July 2021.

He will spend nine years in prison because he had spent two years in jail.

Hushpuppi, in a handwritten letter, had apologised to his family, the FBI and the judge, Justice Otis Wright, in September.

He was charged to court over an extensive scheme he made with others to rob his victims of their money in the UK, US, Qatar amongst other places.

The international fraudster was transported to the United States from Dubai where he admitted to conspiring with multiple persons to defraud his victims.
