Son of Ondo’s former Military Administrator, Muyiwa Opaleye was gunned down by some hooded Assassins in a Lagos Bar, on Wednesday evening, May 13, 2020.
Shot by four armed men in hoods, at a bar at Adekunle Kuye, off Ikate Street, Aguda, Surulere, where he was hanging out with his friends, Muyiwa was 41 years old as at the time of his death.
Witnesses said the gunmen parked their Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) at an adjoining street and followed a footpath that led to the recreational hangout and shot the deceased as soon as they sighted Opaleye in the crowd.
An eyewitness said two of the men readjusted their hoods and advanced towards the crowd from where they shot their target, adding that the crowd, including a relation of a former Lagos State Governor, it was gathered, dispersed with people running in different directions, on sighting the movement of the hooded men.
“They aimed at Opaleye, shot him and came closer to ensure he was hit by the bullet before fleeing the scene.” Said the witness.
According to the witness, all of Opaleye’s friends abandoned him, save for one identified as Kunle, who ran back to save him.
“It was Kunle who lifted him up, took him to his (Opaleye’s) Honda City Sedan car and rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors confirmed Opaleye dead on arrival. Unfortunately for Kunle, the Police at Soloki Station, Aguda, invited him for interrogation.” He said.
He informed that Kunle was eventually detained and moved to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) Panti, as a suspect.
Graduate of Ogun State University, now Olabisi Onabanjo University, Opa, as Muyiwa was popularly called, is the last born in the family of the one-time military administrator of Ondo State, Rtd. Brigadier General Opaleye.
