State verdict 2019: APC leads in the number of Governors declared so far

APC takes 13 of 22 governorship seats declared so far, PDP 9

The All Progressives Congress (APC) party has won 13 out of the 22 governorship seats declared so far in last Saturday’s gubernatorial and state Assembly elections.

According to official results declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the main opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) took nine governorship seats while the seats in six other states were declared inconclusive by the electoral body.

Gubernatorial election was conducted by INEC in 29 States of the Federation on March 9, 2019. Result from one more state (Rivers) is yet to be declared following suspension of polling by INEC due to security concerns. The breakdown of the states/seats won by each of the political parties are as follows:

In the States where elections were declared inconclusive like Sokoto, Plateau, Kano, Adamawa, Bauchi and Benue, rerun is expected to be announced on a later date by INEC.

The major reason for the rerun election in the six states was because of the cancelled votes being higher than the margin between the first two parties/candidates.
