Son of late legend, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, Femi, has reacted to his father’s loss at the 2021 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame even as a second winner.

Recall that Fela was nominated for inductees of the 2021 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in February and was leading before American singer, Tina Turner, beat him to second place at 520,525 votes.

The list of inductees were released a while ago and Fela’s name wasn’t included while some names after his votes were listed.

Some felt it was a bias decision on the organizer’s part with an outpour of countless reactions on social media, especially Twitter where the campaign originated from.

Femi Kuti also reacted to the loss. He claimed they knew what they were doing when they listed Fela as a nominee, knowing fully well they were not going to include him no matter what the result shows.

He referred to the process as a ‘waste of time’. However, he was thankful because people went back to listen to the legend’s music.

He tweeted: “Apparently there’s another vote only members can take part in, and that’s what counts. So they kind of wasted our precious time, the positive side #Fela was trending and many who never heard of him got to hear his music and his story.”
