Golf icon Tiger Woods was involved in a ghastly car accident and had to be extricated from his vehicle according to reports.

The 45-year-old PGA Tour king sustained possible career-ending leg injuries and was immediately rushed to the hospital.

Authorities said the crash occurred just before 7:15 a.m. PST on a downhill stretch of Hawthorne Boulevard on the border of Rancho Palos Verdes and Rolling Hills Estates, an upscale neighborhood south of downtown Los Angeles.

According to Los Angeles County officials, the golfing great had to be extricated from his vehicle after the crash, in which his Genesis GV80 struck the median of a street in Rancho Palos Verdes, California, rolled over multiple times and landed in the brush several hundred feet away. Woods was alone in the car.

Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva said Woods was conscious when officers arrived on the scene and there was no evidence that he was impaired.

The 15-time major champion was later transported to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in serious but stable condition.

“He is currently in surgery and we thank you for your privacy and support,” Woods’ longtime agent, Mark Steinberg, said in a statement Tuesday

Late Tuesday night, a statement was released via Woods’ Twitter account: “We thank everyone for the overwhelming support and messages during this tough time. As previously communicated, Tiger was involved in a single-car accident earlier this morning in California. He has undergone a long surgical procedure on his lower right leg and ankle after being brought to the hospital.

“He is currently awake, responsive, and recovering in his hospital room. Thank you to the wonderful doctors and hospital staff at Harbor UCLA Medical Center, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, and the Fire Department. Your support and assistance has been outstanding.”

Woods has won about 15 major titles worth around £600 million, which means that he can practically afford anything he wants.

The legend who is currently the world number 20 surprised the world after winning the Masters’ tournament in 2019 – over a decade after winning his last majors in the game.
