Marriage is never an easy ride but it’s even more laborious for celebrities to keep, especially with the spotlight on them.

Not all relationships last and not all celebrity marriages are fairy tales. Not that some celebrities do not last, in fact, most of them do. Olu Jacobs and Joke Silva have proved otherwise.

Some of these break-ups were unexpected and it did break some people’s belief about fairy tale marriages.

Here are 10 celebrity break-ups that proved fairy tales don’t exist.

Mofe Duncan and Jessica Kakkad
Mofe and Jessica broke our hearts when they decided to break things off years after their marriage. They were the celebrity sweethearts just like Adesua and Banky. A leaked chat on Instablog in 2016 had sparked a relationship crisis, a year into their marriage but they quickly debunked rumours about having a marital crisis. However, they broke up in 2019. Mofe Duncan quickly moved on after the divorce. The actor posted a picture of himself and a white woman with beautiful quotes about trying again after he thought he couldn’t. His ex-wife, Jessica, also commented under the post, and many confirmed they didn’t end things badly.

Gbenro Ajibade and Osas Ighodaro
The news of their break-up affected many as well. I mean, who wouldn’t? They tried to make everything appear normal when it wasn’t. Gbenro was a TV series TINSEL actor, Ighodaro was Miss Black USA 2010, also an actress on TINSEL. They got engaged and married in June in 2015. Ajibade called his wife out publicly on social media, about neglecting their daughter’s needs.
They broke up there after. The actor, who was recently on ‘RUBBIN MINDS’, talked about his marriage with Osas. He confirmed their divorce but also revealed they are co-parenting their daughter.

Damilola Adegbite and Chris Attoh
Chris and Damilola seem like a match made in heaven. They met on the set of the TV series, TINSEL. It was a beautiful match especially since they were from different countries and co-actors. They got engaged in August 2014, married in February 2015. So, it was a surprise when they sparked a relationship crisis on social media. Some people noticed Damilola didn’t wish Chris a birthday wish and they got curious. Soon after, they announced their break-up, got divorced and moved. Their marriage lasted for two years. Chris didn’t waste time moving up, barely a year after the divorce, the actor was linked with a US-based business woman, Jennifer Bettie.

Lilian Esoro and Ubi Franklin
A lot of people thought their break-up was a stunt when the news broke. Their wedding was one in town, it wasn’t simple at all. So many wouldn’t have expected a break up so fast. Their marriage took a long time to dissolve after their separation. They finally had their divorce finalised in January 2021 after about four years, in Abuja High court. Their divorce and separation was reported to have been as a result of infidelity and domestic abuse. They have a son, Jayden.

Blossom Chukwuhekwu and Maureen Esisi
This onscreen couple were the perfect couple goals people tried to emulate. So it was shocking news when Blossom was said to have moved out of their matrimonial house, and also informed Esisi’s parents of the marriage dissolving. They were married for three years with no children. However, many claimed they didn’t break up because of fertility problems but because Blossom is still in love with the actress he was seeing before Maureen.

Yvonne Jegede and Olakunle Fawole
Their break-up wasn’t expected, at least not so soon. The duo broke up a year into their marriage. Olakunle is the son of late actress, Bukky Ajayi. They got married in a simple wedding ceremony in Lagos in February 2016. A year later, their marriage crashed. Yvonne was accused of infidelity, questioning the father of the child she was carrying. She left the house they both shared because of the accusations. However, the child was born, a boy and he was the spitting image of Olakunle. In an interview with Punch, Yvonne revealed the trouble started 2-3 months into her pregnancy and it became worse over time.

Ik Ogbonna and Sonia Morales
Ik Ogbonna was the shocker of the month when he got married to a Columbia beauty, Sonia, who he met online. Sonia announced their divorce on Instagram on August 8, 2019. They got married in 2015 and they have a son together.

Mercy Aigbe and Lanre Gentry
The duo got married in december 2013, they have a son together, Juwon. Although they are still married, they have been separated for a long time. During the time of the break-up, Mercy granted some interviews to reveal the reason for the break-up. According to her, she stayed in an abusive relationship for so many years because she loved her husband and because a lot of people looked up to her. She also revealed that Gentry cheated on her with one of her close friends. However, Gentry had said it’s all lies, that instead, Mercy was the one cheating on him. In a recent usual online drag, the couple had called themselves distressing names and threatened to reveal each other’s secrets.

Tonto Dikeh and Olakunle Churchill
Tonto and Churchill’s marriage wasn’t as lucky as other 2015s celebrity marriages. Tonto, who hid her ex-husband’s identity till after their marriage, praised her ex-husband at every chance she gets, so it was shocking to hear they have marital troubles. Their marriage hit the rocks when Tonto revealed her ex-husband is seeing actress Rosy Meurer, who was an assistant to Churchill. Their marriage lasted for two years from 2015-2017. They have a son together, King Andre. Olakunle and Rosy revealed they are married and expecting their first child in 2021. They welcomed their baby boy in Switzerland. Churchill made the revelation of a possible wedding two years ago in his Instagram post. He said, “The decision I made two years ago is not a mistake but a divine ordination. It’s a moment of bliss and Celebration to us as I announce the coming of King Churchill Junior.”

Nuella Njubigbo and Tchidi Chikere
Tchidi was formerly married to an actress, Sophia, with three children but they broke things off when Sophia accused Nuella of having an affair with her husband, Tchidi. Nuella and Tchidi got married barely a year after their divorce. However, the marriage bit the dust and it became open to their fans when Sophia stylishly shaded them on Social media about ‘a match made in heaven’, which was the title of Nuella/Tchidi’s marriage in 2015. Nuella recently confirmed their break-up when she removed her husband’s name from her name on IG, she also changed her bio from wife to CEO.

How can we talk about celebrity break-ups without bringing Psquare into this. This is not related to anything emotional or marital but they got our hearts broken when they went their separate ways. The twins, who were among the leading singers in Africa, suddenly went separate ways after their mini disagreements. Sources claim they still battle in their minds, even in their dreams. Because how could they hurt us like that? Their songs were soul lifting and beautiful.

The group, Mo Hits, broke our hearts when they splitted in 2012 due to irreconcilable differences between Don Jazzy and D’Banj, who were the founders of the group. The group was founded in 2004 and quickly became a strong hold house for artists like D’Prince, Wande Coal, Dr Sid and K-Switch.

Another group was Styl Plus. Many still hope for their comeback, however it seems like Tunde has moved on. No one knows the truth behind the break-up but it affected us. The band created magical songs especially in their album and singles, ‘Olufunmi’, ‘Call my name’ and ‘Expressions’, which were randomly played on radios around 2004 and 2005.

Many didn’t believe Wizkid could ever leave Banky W but it happened. Wizkid created his record label, StarBoy Records, in 2013. He was the first artiste signed to Banky’s records where he made plenty of hits and won several awards.
