Lagos, May 8, 2019 (NAN) The visiting President of the Swiss Federal Commission on Migration to Nigeria, Prof. Walter Leimgruber, on Wednesday enjoined young Nigerians to always have the mindset of migrating successfully.
Leimgruber in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos advised Nigerian parents to always first seek vital information about their children or wards’ destination before allowing them to migrate.
The Professor of Cultural Anthropology said that every foreign country, including Switzerland would welcome any young Nigerian that would embark on regular migration to study, work or do businesses.
“We all know that there has always been migration, and there will always continue to be migration from one geographical location to another.
“But, we must also know that every government is against illegal migration, and would want laws against illegal migration enforced when there are violators.
“’So, we want every young Nigerian to travel successfully to Switzerland and other countries to study and work,’’ he said.
Leimgruber said that it was imperative for parents and their children to also always provide accurate information about themselves and what they would be doing in their destination countries appropriately.
The president said that the commission and the Swiss government were already working with different countries, including Nigeria in reducing incidences of illegal migration.
“We really must work with countries where migrants are coming from to our country to be able to deal with the problems associated with illegal migration.
“’We are also going to be working more with organisations like the Organisation for International Migration (IOM), United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and others,’’ he said. (NAN)
