The female team retained her title at the Camtel
International Beach Volleyball Championships in Yaoundé, Cameroon.
Reacting to the ranking, the President of
Nigeria Volleyball Federation, Engineer Musa Nimrod hailed the girls for
maintain their position despite the threats form other beach volleyball
nations.
Nimrod said the girls will attend several
Championships and also defend her gold medal at the All Africa Games in
Morocco.
He said, “This year is fully packed with
beach volleyball event on the Africa continent and the world. Our priority is
to ensure this girls (include the male team) participate in them.
“We shall also defend the gold medal we won
at the 2015 All Africa Games in Congo. The 2019 All Africa Games in Morocco
looks tough buy I am optimistic of great performance”.
Nimrod revealed that all machineries are been
put in place in order for the teams to begin training in earnest ahead of the
Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
“Asides the All Africa Games, our dream is
for Nigeria to be one of Africa representative at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. We
hope to achieve this through early preparations and support from individuals
and the private sector”, he added.

2019 FIBAWCQ: FIBA awards Senegal host of final
window
FIBA Africa has awarded Senegal host of the
sixth and final window of the 2019 FIBA World Cup Qualifiers in February.
With Tunisia, Nigeria, and Angola already
qualified for the World Cup in August, the last two tickets on offer for
African countries will be determined in Dakar.
Leaders D’Tigers who are unbeaten in the
Qualifiers, will square off with Cote d’Ivoire, Central African Republic and
host Senegal in the second leg of Group F.
Senegal are second on the log followed by CAR,
Cote d’Ivoire, Rwanda and Mali respectively. The second best team in the Group
and the best third-placed team from the two groups will qualify for the FIBA
World Cup scheduled for August 31-September 15 in China.
Cameroon who are third in Group E with 19 points
still stand a chance of qualifying only if the third best team in Group F
finish lower.
The six-team tournament is expected to take
place in the recently-launched new Dakar Arena, located on the outskirts of the
Senegalese capital from February 22-24.
