The European Union through its Head of Delegation in Nigeria, Ambassador Keil Karlsen at a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Aso Villa on Monday April 13, 2020 announced the generous grant by the EU to assist the Nigerian government in her fight against the dreaded covid-19 pandemic.

In an official statement made available to our correspondence by Mr. Femi Adesina, the spokesman to the President of Nigeria says the 50 Million pounds grant was to purposely given by the European as part of her contribution to help the country’s resolve to ensure the eradication of the disease in Nigeria.

It would be recalled that the Nigerian government had come under varying criticism amidst several donors of both individual and corporate bodies who had made donations towards thesame course of fighting the dreaded pandemic.

In the recent time, the President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari made two addresses to Nigerians in the space of three weeks.

The two addresses in their differing intent has been criticised, especially by the opposition parties and other stakeholders to have come short of expectations.

In the recent broadcast by Buhari on Monday April 13, the entire world looked out to have him clear the air on the palliative moves embarked upon by his administration and perhaps announce a workable and sustainable system of providing relief packages to further cushion the effects of the stay-at-home order on the generality of Nigeria, most especially in the prevalent areas.

It is however hoped that the federal government of Nigeria will justify her precarious reputation before her citizens by responding to the yearnings, judging by this additional grant.

  1. Aaaah! EU still donating to Nigeria with the eminent hunger staring them at the face? Why donate money to a country that has not been able to give account for all the monetary donations she had received. This donation has monkey face and not wisely done.
