The governorship candidate of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) in Ogun State, Dimeji Bankole on Friday expressed concern over the state of the nation, saying every sector “is yearning for a better Nigeria.”

The former Speaker of the House of Representatives spoke while addressing newsmen in Abeokuta, Ogun State, preparatory of his open rally ahead of March 2nd governorship election in the state.

Bankole argued that no Nigerian is satisfied with the current development in the country politically and economically, pointing out that it’s high time Nigerians take the responsibility of developing the nation right from the grassroots.

He said contrary to insinuations, his governorship ambition “is very much on course,” and vowed to drive massive employment through the public sector if elected as governor.

According to him, unless urgent measure is taken to create sustainable employment, Nigeria is sitting on a keg of gun powder.

Bankole said “I’m not aware of any person in Nigeria that is satisfied with our situation. And I think those in the business sector, the political sector; every sector are yearning for a better Nigeria.

“What we should all realise is that we are all in this together. We all have our responsibilities as leaders and followers, starting from our community. That’s why I keep referring to the Local Government, which is the most important aspect of governance. It affects us directly.

“The collapse of Local Government is what led to the establishment of the CDAs and CDCs across the South neighborhood. We just have to take up the responsibilities when others are not taking it.

“We will do whatever it takes to bring multimillion dollars companies into this state. There is short, mid and long term strategy for the companies. And we will stand by our agreement with them. When we need to renegotiate, we will renegotiate based on their survival.”
